Three Reasons to Choose WMPM Day Camps (Part 1)

At Western Maine Play Museum, we are super proud of the day camps that we offer. We work hard to provide our community's kids with high-quality, kid-centered camps, and we want to tell you all about them! So here is part one of a two-part series to introduce you to what we do all summer!

Number One: Our Staff

Our camp staff is made up of teachers, and soon-to-be teachers. They help create our top-notch curriculum and set the tone and intention of the camp week to ensure that your kid leaves camp at the end of the day full of fun experiences, but not overwhelmed. Meet a few of our camp staff:

This is Gracie! This is her third year working at WMPM summer camp. This summer she is directing Harry Potter camp and Dino camp. In the fall, she begins her journey as an elementary music teacher in the RSU9 area! Gracie’s favorite fun fact to share about herself is that a few years ago, she had a video on America’s Funniest Home Videos!

Meet Eryka! Eryka is very kind and hard working. She is joining the WMPM camp staff as a counselor for all four camp weeks this summer! Eryka is currently a student at UMF to be a 1st grade teacher.

Kate is a local teacher and mom of two fun boys. She coordinates the party rentals and works part-time at the Western Maine Play Museum. You may also know her as DJ Beets, an enthusiastic and silly dance party leader and event host. Kate loves reading, acting, dancing, and singing and is really excited to direct Fantasy Camp week at WMPM this summer!

Number Two: We Prioritize Nature and STEM Learning

From Dino Camp to Fantasy Camp, we are always thoughtful about including STEM learning, incorporating as much time outside in nature as possible each day, and encouraging campers to use their imaginations to create new experiences. For example, in Fantasy Camp, campers will choose costumes each day and create their own characters and the stories they reside in. At Around the World Camp, we will cook foods from other cultures and learn games that kids play all over the globe. Dino camp will be full of careful excavation, fossils, and trying to figure out just how big those big beasts were. Suffice it to say, every day is carefully filled with fun ways to learn new things and learn about the world around us both near and far and long ago.

Number Three: Museum Play!

What is a day at the Western Maine Play Museum without some time to play in our beloved exhibit spaces? A favorite part of the day is right before pickup when campers get free time for child-led play. When the day gets hot, there’s no better way to cool down than in our beautiful air-conditioned renovated Victorian building. Campers and staff alike look forward to the games and fun that the campers create during this time.

Come back for part two!

Come back later this week to meet the rest of our staff, and learn a few more things about our camps! Heard enough already and want to sign your camper up for all the fun? We don’t blame you! We still have space in Around the World Camp and Fantasy Camp! Visit the Day Camp Page for more info and to sign up!
